Weโre that couple obsessed with timelapses. My husband calls them โtimelapses,โ I say โhyperlapsesโ you can already guess what kind of phones we use. But beyond the terminology, thereโs something about capturing life in motion that teaches you, patience. A four-minute timelapse? Youโre easily giving up an hour of your day. But it’s always worth it.
Iโve started falling in love with rooftops. A girl loves to eat, so now Iโm always suggesting spots for lunch or dinner that conveniently have the perfect timelapse view. Itโs become part of the date planning; food, ambiance, and good lighting for a rooftop lapse.
This past weekend was grooming time. My husband needed his usual shave, and I needed a dreadlock retwist and a proper pedicure. I always say I wonโt look middle-aged for another week. My friends insist that your feet determine the look of your legs and I canโt argue with that.
Now, my husband is loyal to his barber in a way I could never be. Even when the fade isnโt quite right, heโll go back. Me? One wrong move, and Iโm already thinking about how to take the style down and where to go next. I go for comfort, convenience and zero waiting. Sitting still for too long? Not my thing.
After we were done, we went upstairs the salon, a lounge (called 360, though it felt more like 270) had a rooftop with a great view of the 7 Days roundabout. Perfect timelapse material. We ordered a late lunch and drinks and settled in to capture the chaos of Jubaโs traffic.
Within two hours, we saw so much, cars weaving, motorbikes darting, water trucks lumbering, and pedestrians casually crossing right in the middle of the roundabout. Why? I still donโt know. Honestly, I need a whole blog post just to vent about rickshaws, boda bodas, and traffic police who must be tired of all that whistle-blowing and dramatic hand-gesturing.
But despite it all, we got the shot, hands down our best SavvyLapse yet:
